Orod ("we," "us," "Orod") operates the Orod rider app and the Orod Darawal (driver) app, both used to arrange and complete rides and parcel deliveries in Mogadishu, Somalia. This policy explains what information we collect, why, and how you can control it. It applies to both apps.
Information we collect
| Category | What | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Account | Phone number, PIN (stored as a salted hash, never in plain text), display name, optional recovery email, optional profile photo | Create and secure your account, identify you to the other party on a trip |
| Location | GPS location while a ride or delivery is active; for drivers, while online and available for requests | Match riders with nearby drivers, calculate fares and routes, show live trip tracking |
| Trip data | Pickup/drop-off points, fare, distance, timestamps, ratings, trip chat messages | Provide the ride/delivery service, trip history, dispute resolution, driver payouts |
| Voice calls | In-app calls between rider and driver during an active trip | Let you coordinate pickup without sharing personal phone numbers. Calls are not recorded or stored — audio is relayed live only. |
| Driver documents | Driving licence, vehicle details, and identification photos (drivers only, submitted during application) | Verify drivers before they can accept trips |
| Payment attestation | A confirmation record ("payment sent" / "payment received") after a trip, tied to your account | Orod does not process payments directly — riders and drivers settle via EVC Plus outside the app, and each side confirms this happened. We never see or store card, bank, or mobile-money account details. |
| Device & diagnostics | Push-notification token, crash reports, basic device information | Deliver trip notifications, fix bugs and crashes |
Who we share information with
We do not sell your information or share it for advertising. We use the following service providers to run the app, each processing only what's needed for their function:
- Supabase — database and account storage
- Firebase Cloud Messaging — push notifications
- Agora — real-time in-app voice calls (not recorded)
- Sentry — crash and error reporting
- Resend — transactional email (PIN reset codes only)
Your name, approximate location, and rating are shared with the other party on a trip so the ride or delivery can happen. Drivers see a rider's pickup/drop-off and name; riders see a driver's name, photo, vehicle, and live location during an active trip.
Data retention
We keep trip records for as long as your account is active, for history, support, and dispute resolution. If you delete your account, we remove your personal profile information; trip records may be retained in de-identified or aggregate form for safety and financial record-keeping.
Your choices
- Location access can be turned off in your device settings — the app will tell you which features need it before asking again.
- You can edit or remove your profile photo and display name at any time in Account settings.
- Push notifications can be disabled in your device settings.
- To delete your account and its data, see below.
Delete your account and data
In the app: go to Account → Settings → "Tirtir Akoonka" (Delete Account) and confirm. This permanently deletes your profile, and cancels any pending or active use of your account. It cannot be undone.
Without the app: if you can't sign in, send a deletion request through the "Nagala Soo Xiriir" (Contact us) option inside either app, or via WhatsApp support, and we'll delete your account and associated personal data on request. Trip records may be retained in de-identified or aggregate form for safety and financial record-keeping, as described under Data retention above.
Children
Orod is not directed at children. Both rider and driver accounts require a valid phone number and, for drivers, a real driving licence.
Changes to this policy
If we make material changes, we'll update the date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, notify you in the app.
Contact us
Questions about this policy or your data can be sent through the "Nagala Soo Xiriir" (Contact us) option inside either app, or via WhatsApp support.
